Alaska Mountain and Wilderness Hut Association AMWHA is a nonprofit trying to establish a European-style hut-to-hut system of trails and huts established in the Chugach National Forest, connecting the area between Lower Summit Lake (along the Seward Highway halfway between Seward and Anchorage) with the Spencer Glacier area (along the Alaska Railroad), via the Johnson Pass Trail. See the proposed route, and to see the challenges they’re facing.
