Advocate for Trails

Anchorage enjoys a world-class trail system because of the efforts and energy of numerous trail advocates.  We urge you to be an advocate for maintaining and improving our trails and pathways:

  • Write a letter to the editor of the Anchorage Daily News.   If trails are important to you,  make sure the decisionmakers know it.  This is an easy way to make your voice heard loud and clear.
  • Write to your Assembly and Legislative representatives.    In an era of mass mailing and phoning, a personal note or e-mail is remarkably effective.
  • Comment on plans and projects.  ATGC tries to keep you informed of opportunities to comment, either in person at hearings or meetings or by submitting written comments.  Keep an eye on community calendar listings and newspaper stories on trails and parks issues, too, and take a moment to comment.  Individual comments receive a lot of weight.
  • Attend meetings and hearings.  The public process can seem a bit overwhelming at times, as can some of the trails and parks issues, but you can quickly come up to speed and become comfortable partticipating if you attend a few meetings, learn who the players are, and talk to others.  (And if it's a long meeting, take a good book and enjoy the down time!)
