About Us

WHO WE ARE

Anchorage Trails and Greenways Coalition, Inc. is a nonprofit corporation established in 1994.  Our mission is to establish and improve trails and greenways in the Anchorage area through service, education, advocacy and cooperation among diverse interests.  We strive to be the forum through which Anchorage residents can:

  • Build a sense of community among all trail users.
  • Guide establishment of trails, walkways, bikeways, and greenways, and year-round maintenance and management of these facilities.
  • Involve supporters in projects that maintain and improve Anchorage area trails and greenways.
  • Encourage safe, courteous, and cooperative trail use

WHAT WE DO

Advocacy

First and foremost, we advocate for the establishment and improvement of trails in Anchorage, including soft-surface and paved trails and roadside pathways.  We also advocate for safe biking and pedestrian routes throughout the community.  The “greenways” in our name reflects our support for undeveloped open space in the municipal parks system and green corridors along our trails and waterways.

Projects

In addition to advocacy, we have taken on a number of projects over the years at the initiative of our members.  These have included:

  • planning and fundraising for major improvements in Cuddy Family Midtown Park
  • development and publication of Anchorage’s Best Trails Map
  • planning and advocacy for the “A” Street Pathway (North-South Trail)
  • Rabbit Creek Greenbelt Trail funding and construction

We now are focusing on improvements for safe biking and walking to provide non-motorized transportation options to connect neighborhoods and businesses throughout Anchorage. .
